Hydrogen - the Fuel of the Future

From low carbon to no carbon

Stabilis is investing In the emerging hydrogen sector and the vision of making zero-carbon energy a scalable and affordable alternative to low carbon and high carbon fossil fuels.

Why Hydrogen

Hydrogen is the most abundant element on earth. With no greenhouse gas emissions, it is an excellent fuel for the transition to clean energy. Today, there are many methods of creating hydrogen with the goal of moving towards the use of renewable energy sources. Stabilis is invested in reducing the cost and environmental impact of producing hydrogen to make it a viable alternative for use in transportation, manufacturing, electricity generation applications and more.

Infographic: Colors of Hydrogen. Gray hydrogen: Made by splitting natural gas into hydrogen and CO2, CO2 is emitted into the atmosphere. Blue hydrogen: Made by splitting natural gas into hydrogen and CO2. CO2 is captured and stored or reused. Green hydrogen: Made using renewable energy to split water, no CO2 emissions.

Hydrogen Advantages

  • Hydrogen can be produced from excess renewable energy and is readily available
  • It can be stored in large amounts
  • It is highly efficient. By weight, hydrogen contains almost three times as much energy as fossil fuels

Our Projects

Stabilis is actively developing the emerging hydrogen market. One example is a first-of-its kind pilot project to deliver hydrogen-powered passenger ferry bunkering. Launching in 2021, the project will result in a 100% reduction in emissions. Stabilis is also working on pilot projects to blend hydrogen with LNG to achieve environmental benefits with existing infrastructure.
